[Status Update] Down again

Hey all, as you've noticed, the Wiki's been down for a couple weeks again. I didn't make a post at the time about it because I thought it wasn't serious, but it would seem it might be.

I can't tell you a whole lot, but in Womby's own words, the Wiki was "attacked" and consequently brought down. However, while he was putting it back up, he encountered some difficulties so it remains down. The Wiki's a crazy beast. D:

So yes, still down. If I hear anything more I'll post here.

wah, that sucks!! I wish luck to Womby and hope that theppn will be up soon. I miss it D;

I'd go on a hunger strike till it comes back but we're ordering pizza today so no can do ^_~. I'm missing wiki theppn though :(

lol i never noticed how much i use wiki the ppn so much. lol ^_^ but when it gets back up. I'LL BE SO HAPPY!!!

Someone was asking me what happened to the wiki, I said I had no idea until I remembered Womby was planning on moving it away from his own hosting at home to an external host. The costs to running the site from his house was getting pricier than just using a hosting company, specially how hosting is dirty cheap nowadays compared to when we were still working on D.A.M.N.

I haven't heard from womby yet, but according to a whois and traceroute theppn.org is now pointing to dreamhost, which pretty much confirms it. it also explains why url just points to an empty directory.
Last time I spoke with him he had some wacky ideas, so why he chose that piece of crap hosting company is beyond me.

In short, don't worry. The wiki will be back. Don't ask me when.

P.S.: Please post this around so people will know.

Any one of a thousand ass-hats with the means to do it, probably. Do we know what kind of attack it was? There's not enough money in it for the blackmail DDOS angle. Maybe someone got pissed off by one of the style czars... who knows?

agreed. i use it alot. lol now that i think about it, i used to use it everyday before it went down.

i miss wiki so much, it was such a resourceful sight, i loved it so much, it had so many info that i check it about 10 times a day looking at detailed profile and sales chart

(ok, since this is the latest thread for theppn dead status, i'm double posting this here)


Everybody, start copying the information from google cache for wiki.theppn.org before it disappears :p
According to wikiindex.org it's only 19,000 pages.

I'm kidding... no, not really. This could have been a solution.
Well, it's better than starting from scratch.
www.wikinfo.org could be a good place to host it (wikipedia won't allow them due to notability crap), but there are probably better places.
Don't see it as a "19,000 wtf, we'll never do it". It should be seen as a "one step at a time".

Can you imagine what you will do if theppn doesn't come back?
*mass events of nekkid children could happen, as it was professed in GitS* (lame joke, I know)


Anyway, has Womby considered requesting support from the mySQL dudes or some other experts?
"That requires money." Yes I know. That is why a donation scheme could be set.


Come on guys! People need to have valid reasons to procrastinate!!!

It doesn't take weeks to solve MySQL problems. Any other site would have been dust by now. Think if LiveJournal was down for a month because of DB issues. It doesn't happen.

A question. Since WikiTheppn is part of Wikipedia (at least by name) I'm wondering what was 'Theppn'. What was the main/domain for it? www.theppn.org?

We're not part of Wikipedia - we merely use the software Wikipedia uses.

But ah, just what IS ThePPN? That is a secret, and it shall remain a secret =) If I recall right only three people know, and we'll never tell! Mwahahahaha!

i actually didn't use the wiki that much, and then right when i happened to start needing it more for info i couldn't find anywhere else, it went down. haha. look forward to it coming back

I miss theppn!

I have been lost on the newest artists in Japan and Korea, and it's killing me! I have been searching all over the internet. And the only think i found is kpopwiki.com and it comes absolutley no where close to theppn!! BRING IT BACK SOON!
