58468_0: [wiki sysop post] an update to let you know there is an update coming

I will tell you what I do know at the moment.

Wiki.theppn is NOT closed and any copies of the site should not be supported. We do not back them or have any affiliation with them and they are essentially taking our information without permission.

I heavily apologize for the downtime and my own lack of checking this community and setting things straight. I didn't realize there were so many people waiting for a simple status update, but believe me, I understand the feeling. I also understand you want a source for Asian pop culture information, but we are the place to go to, even though we've been experiencing unreasonable downtime.

Please, just hang in there a little bit longer. I'll be able to give you concrete information soon.

I'm going to go out on a limb and actually respond here.
You say you will boycott us because we claim the rights to material that is user-generated content. I would like to address this claim.
I was a user on wiki.theppn since its inception in 2004. In the beginning we had maybe ten regular users who would post and check the other work being posted on a daily basis. Some of us ran up to two hundred edits per day. As the wiki developed and the breadth of the project expanded, the ten regular users dwindled to maybe six or five. We encouraged new members to join and contribute to pages, but there was always one of us (not always me or wapiko) double checking, formatting, and making sure pages were up to par. I have no idea how many pages were deleted because they were direct copies of sites that did not meet our licensing agreement, but there were many user generated pages that were deleted due to quality issues.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say one of these six editors has had a hand in creating around 80% of the pages on the wiki that were not simple CD pages.
You claim we have no right to be upset at the copying because the users own the information. To an extent your claim has validity, however, you do not specify who these ambiguous users are. If you want to see who is truly hurt that all of the work we have contributed to and painstakingly checked over the past four years is missing or being copied elsewhere, look to us.
You act like all of this means nothing to us. You think Womby is not trying despite his priorities. We are not heartless people. We are very dedicated to the wiki and have been dedicated.
If you still want to boycott us, fine. Maybe it will vaguely upset us in some way. However, more than anything, I think we are doing this for ourselves rather than to appease people who want to boycott us for being proud of our work.

I, for one, appreciate the fact that you responded at all.
However, I must say that it really wasn't necessary...IMO.
I'm positive that there is an overwhelming majority that respect & admire what you folks are doing.
A relatively few ungrateful individuals decided to develop a "tax-payer" mentality, so to speak? Wow! They want to boycott? I say go right ahead. They'll miss out once things are back up & running (and I don't believe for one minute that they'll be able to stay away for too long, anyway...for obvious reasons).
Anyway, don't let these selfish individuals get you down. I believe that there are far more that will respect your wishes & remain loyal.
Keep up the great work!
