sakurakessho: wiki be down, yo
Yeah.. pathetic title is excusable.
But in all seriousness, I'd love to know why wiki is down? Is it because someone forgot to pay the bill or there's not enough money to pay the bill. If that's teh case then we need to get some money together.
Teh internets feels dead without our beloved wiki T_T

Ah, again? ;_____;
Sun, Nov. 16th, 2008 06:01 pm (UTC)
All I can say for now is that Womby knows the server is down and is working to get it back up.
And maybe I can say that it was, in his words, "attacked," but I can't say anything past that.

Ah, man, I'd wondered why it was down. =/
Hopefully Womby can get it back up with out too much headache.

(Anonymous): the server crashed and then .....
The server crashed at around midnight japan time, when i woke up in the morning I was informed that it was not working like it should and logged in to take a look. the server was not responding so I switched on a replacement but the database is hating me right now.
The problem is that the DB server appears to think it cant support InnoDB tables anymore, this means none of the backups can be loaded. I am attempting to find a way to persuade it to stop being a bitch but it just wont budge. If I cant get it running the wiki is dead, I just have no data and no way to extract it. every backup I have for the past 4 months is refusing to load, and I just cant see why.

sakurakessho: Re: the server crashed and then .....
But sometimes problems like that are solved (on windows machines) my reinstalling whatever program reads the InnoDB tables. Maybe that would help? IDK

I hope you're able to get the Wiki back up and working again. Good luck!

(Anonymous): temporary alternative to wiki.theppn.org
In all my despair I googled and googled a bit more, and I have found a temporary alternative to wiki.theppn.org
I was really desperate in finding the correct track names for Dir en grey discography...
But I have noticed incorrect filenames :-(
For example, Malice Mizer merveilles album:
>>> 03 Vers elle ～kuuhaku no toki no naka de～
>>> 06 Egée ～sugisarishi kaze totomo ni～
WRONG. It should be:
>>> 03. Bel Air ~Kuuhaku no Toki no Naka de~
>>> 06. E-GE ~Sugisarishi Kaze to Tomoni~
So take it with a grain of salt... and a bottle of sake.
PLEASE revive wiki.theppn.org!!!
We will send japanese schoolgirls to your home if you do! And they will rape the sh*t out of you :p

facevoid: Re: temporary alternative to wiki.theppn.org
JaME is more for news feed than for band info and disco.
it's there for reference only i think.
not a total exact accurate tag. XD

(Anonymous): Too bad to be true
Wiki should be given a Nobel prize. There is nowhere to find so much good information about our favourite bands. I hope you fix it soon. ¡Ánims! (it means 'cheer up!' in Catalan (from Catalonia, Spain))
Sat, Nov. 29th, 2008 11:08 am (UTC)
FWIW, is there anything a recovering sysadmin like me can do to help bring the wiki back online?
Sat, Nov. 29th, 2008 08:20 pm (UTC)
Surely with this latest failure on the technical side of things, the info should just all be copied over to wikipedia where it will be relatively safe and secure. The only loss would be all of the copyrighted pictures.
Sat, Nov. 29th, 2008 10:22 pm (UTC)
Although Womby does not legaly owe us anything, the implied "contract" with the many contibutors and the many many users is that he keep this resorce up and running. If he can't, the right thing to do would be to tranfer the information to wikipedia. The very least we deserve now is a real status report.
Mon, Dec. 1st, 2008 07:55 am (UTC)
any luck with the backups? :\
Mon, Dec. 1st, 2008 11:31 am (UTC)
Anything going on with the Wiki lately? Or is it still stuck in limbo as it was with the last status update?
Tue, Dec. 2nd, 2008 03:25 am (UTC)
any news or anything with the wiki? =]
Tue, Dec. 2nd, 2008 02:31 pm (UTC)
fucking fix it already
Tue, Dec. 2nd, 2008 02:43 pm (UTC)
so... how are things going now? :P
I have been missing this wiki actually :/
what about that reinstall suggestion?
Wed, Dec. 3rd, 2008 11:18 pm (UTC)
Everybody, start copying the information from google cache for wiki.theppn.org before it disappears :p
According to wikiindex.org it's only 19,000 pages.
I'm kidding... no, not really. This could have been a solution.
Well, it's better than starting from scratch.
www.wikinfo.org could be a good place to host it (wikipedia won't allow them due to notability crap), but there are probably better places.
Don't see it as a "19,000 wtf, we'll never do it". It should be seen as a "one step at a time".
Can you imagine what you will do if theppn doesn't come back?
*mass events of nekkid children could happen, as it was professed in GitS* (lame joke, I know)
Anyway, has Womby considered requesting support from the mySQL dudes or some other experts?
"That requires money." Yes I know. That is why a donation scheme could be set.
Come on guys! People need to have valid reasons to procrastinate!!!
JAV isn't enough...

(Anonymous): Possible extraction experts?
Could the most recent DB be transferred to:
(a) a trusted volunteer with access to an InnoDB-capable server
(b) a trusted person with the necessary tools to convert it?
[Either direct DB conversion or by loading it on a personal private server and ripping / converting the wiki directly.]
(c) torrent or ed2k, in the absence of a trusted expert, so the community can use it and potentially find a solution involving one of the above?
The loss of control, account opening, etc in the last one is undesirable, but I hope preferable to the death of the wiki . . .
I seriously lack time right now, but there are tools out there and I might be a person capable of doing this. However, an expert would be better, and even when not Anon, I am not a known and trusted member of the community. :-/
Were option (c) used, I would definitely invest time in the recovery effort.
Mon, Dec. 29th, 2008 10:31 pm (UTC)
Omg I have been waiting weeks, no, months for it to come up. I check everyday.
Wikipedia doesn't cut it at all. I miss it dearly. T^T
