The user info page said that we could post suggestions if we had any, so...
I tried looking up Coco Lee on Theppn but it said there wasn't a page on her. I'm not offering to do one as I don't know very much (if any) HTML, I was just wondering if a page could be added for her. Here's a link to her Wikipedia entry...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coco_Lee
On a side note, how do we all pronounce Wiki.theppn? As for me, I pronounce it Wiki-thippin' (rhymes with sipping - only without the "g" on the end...) XD
Anyways, thanks guys for making an invaluable resource for Asian pop info!!! :)

Your lovely Mod-ish person back to whimper and shake a cup~
This was mentioned in Amanda's last post but I figured I'd make an "Official" one.A PayPal account has been set up for the Wiki.
We're looking into programming the code directly but in the mean time HERE
is where you can find any information. The page will probably be updated in the future but we'll be sure to keep it accurate.
Any and all donations are appreciated but certainly don't feel obligated.
Thanks for being understanding during our downtime and your support :)
ps. I also implemented a tag system.
Woah we have 113 Members!?!?!?
Um.... Hi guys. Self intros? Sharing circle? Awkward theater game?
My friend made a favicon for the site.
You can download and use it here
if you like.
As you may have already noticed, the Wiki is back up! Hooray! Cheers of joy! :D I also have a message from womby
- he's forgotten the password for his account so he can't say this himself:"The wiki was running on a quad xeon (yes older single cores pre-hyperthreading) and could handle around 8 - 10 simultaneous renders before the machine was maxed out. I had it setup so all static content was handled by lighttpd and apache/mod_php only took care of the dynamic requests. Over the past year the single machine was being taxed, the database was moved onto its own host but more changes were needed.
I do not have the time or attention to devote to maintaining the environment like I once did so I made the decision to move it onto managed hosts. The dreamhost attempt was an experiment to see if generic hosting was even possible (laughable in its failure there) but at least it told me that the bandwidth usage was not going to be a problem. Now I am using significantly more expensive bandwidth and persistence but with CPU time as available as water.
In terms of cost, running the service out of my apartment was burning through $400 a month for my ISP and running 3 hosts (web, db & firewall). Now I am going to be paying about $100 a month per server + bandwidth, my goal here is not to save money but to provide some sort of reliability which has been sorely missed over the last year."
Now, remember, if anything like this ever happens in the future, it will be posted about here. I recommend either bookmarking the community or adding it to your friends list so you know if something's up.
I'd also like to take this time to remind everybody: DON'T DIRECTLY LINK IMAGES FROM THE WIKI.
This contributes heavily to the bandwidth we use and if you direct link so many, we'll blame you as the reason it's not loading. :D
Not sure what I'm talking about? Direct-linking or hot-linking is when you're on another site (your own, a BBS, or anywhere that is NOT wiki.theppn.org in this case) and you link to a website using a code like (img src=http://wiki.theppn.org/imageurl.jpg
). This takes up lots of bandwidth and makes Womby, Wapiko, and Saa quite sad. If you absolutely must share the image, then upload it to your OWN server or a free server like TinyPic
The wiki will be coming back very soon, as Womby seems to have found a good host. =) We thank you all for your suggestions!!! Womby is currently copying over all of the files and will be testing the wiki tonight when he is not busy.
Of course, hosting the Wiki is extremely costly and we very much appreciate all of your offers for donation. Because it is very expensive, we hope those offers still stand. Below is a Paypal button if you wish to donate - all donations are appreciated and we thank you very much in advance for your support!
Unfortunately, it would seem it's impossible to host the Wiki with Dreamhost. =/ If anybody has any ideas on where to host the monster for a reasonable price, please let us know! It takes up well over 2 gigs of memory. I talked with Womby today about donations but he said not yet. xD
Also....for any techies here, might you know how I can view my own websites? *laugh* My website is The Harmony Bunny Network
, which is also part of ThePPN. While others can see it just perfectly, I can't get it to load at all. =( What can I do? I've cleared my cache and history and whatnot.
It died again. It was back but was only in read only mode and God-awful slow. But it was there. Twas an amazing thing.
We don't need to do a massive fundraiser or something do we?
Thank you so much to everyone who commented on the last entry with your support. We're happy we're able to be your first stop for Asian music information, and we want to keep it that way!
That said, here is a small status update.
We should be back and running smoothly soon. The problem with Dreamhost was that the Wiki takes up a lot of memory but we're getting more from them. Still, keep your fingers crossed that we come back soon!EDIT:
We are back up but VERY LAGGY. We acknowledge the problem and Womby is taking measures to fix it. Until the issues are resolved we'll remain in read-only mode.
The plan was to have the Wiki back up a day or two ago but as luck would have it, our new server, Dreamhost, dislikes the Wiki. Womby is currently in talks with them to see what can be done.
In the meantime we're no longer 404ing, but 500ing! HURRAH! UPGRADE.
I'll continue to keep you posted. =3
Hey all, Womby's currently switching servers so a lot of sites with ThePPN (including the wiki of course) are going to be in read-only mode and some will be down. This means you will be able to read the wiki, but you will not be able to make edits to it. The server change will be done in about eight hours, so I'll keep you posted as I know more.
