58468_0: [wiki sysop post] an update to let you know there is an update coming

I will tell you what I do know at the moment.

Wiki.theppn is NOT closed and any copies of the site should not be supported. We do not back them or have any affiliation with them and they are essentially taking our information without permission.

I heavily apologize for the downtime and my own lack of checking this community and setting things straight. I didn't realize there were so many people waiting for a simple status update, but believe me, I understand the feeling. I also understand you want a source for Asian pop culture information, but we are the place to go to, even though we've been experiencing unreasonable downtime.

Please, just hang in there a little bit longer. I'll be able to give you concrete information soon.

Yeah, we know. =) But in similar cases, we have a license that doesn't allow copying to Wikipedia unless it's by the user who submitted the information. Isn't this the same?

I wouldn't know. Sowwy. But doesn't Wikipedia have stronger restrictions than any other Wiki? I should read up on this stuff.

All in all I am happy to see you guys are working on it. If you need any assistance, please just ask me. Email or LJ me.

Oh, they definitely do...I think that's one of the reasons Womby created the wiki in the first place. We're able to upload images freely and things are definitely more lax. I think it runs more on an honor code than sources...most people just think "ah, it's at the Asian Wiki, I don't need a source" or something because people can spot the bullcrap that comes in.

so I hope! haha.

This is going to sound like a dick comment, and I apologize in advance, but last I was able to check wiki.theppn.org was using the Creative-Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, which would mean that anyone is free to copy the content as long as attribution was given. Given that I can only check web.archive.org, I could be mistaken.

Not a dick comment at all, you are absolutely right, the wiki was licensed for the entries to be taken and republished everywhere that meets with the by-sa 2.0 licence. That specifically excludes wikipedia from the mix as they use GFDL as does wikia.

The goal of the top post by wapi is to specifically curtail any ideas that these offshoot projects are official grandchild projects, and that they should not be supported as such.
